Pivotell
So often, a person will require medication that falls outside of any blister style medication packaging solution. These medications are more commonly supplied by pharmacy in a pill container (usually cylindrical and orange in colour) or box from the original pharmaceutical supplier (a packet of 24 panadeine tablets for example). This can occur when a GP adds medications to his/her prescription which may be required outside of the regular 28 day prescription so commonly managed via a blister pack solution in the aged care and home care environments here in Australia. This is a regular occurrence and many people across the region will be required to not only remember the time, dosage size, medication type but also the regularity to which these medication are required.
The Pivotell range of products has identified the issues with safe and accurate administration of medication in these cases and offers a range of products to reduce the risk of an adverse medication event. One of Pivotel’s products is the Advance GSM pill dispenser. The Advance can be easily filled, and programmed online to dispense pills up to 24 times a day. At the pre-programmed times, the dispenser rotates, the alarm signal is heard, and the correct dosage comes into view through the opening in the lid. The alarm can be programmed to ring for up to 5 hours. A self-locking shutter over the lid opening prevents access to the medication tray except at the alarm time. This prevents the possibility of double dosing or the forced movement of the medication tray by the user. The dispenser can send alert messages to family members if medication has or has not been dispensed from the device so that appropriate action is taken to check on the wellbeing of the individual before a potentially adverse event occurs. PharmRx offers a series of Pivotel’s range including personal reminders and medication dispensers for the hearing impaired.
MediPense
A large portion in-Home care and Aged care facilities across the region have adopted the Webster or Blister type packaging as a means of scheduling the administration of daily medications either supervised or self-administered.
Medipense has developed technology that goes one step further and ensures that the blister pack is securely held and administers the medications to the user based on his/her medication prescription. With a growing percentage of the elderly staying at home longer, forgetting to take medications whether they be in a multi-dose or unit dose blister occurs regularly. The RxPense® is a secure personal medication dispensing and remote monitoring solution suitlable for blister packaging and ensures older people, chronic care patients and people with disabilities at home or in residential care take the correct medications on time. It notifies caregivers or medical professionals if a dose. Is missed and it records the consumption of ‘as-needed’ and over-the-counter medications. It can also capture (though external sensors), monitor and store vitals along with the electronic patient record. It gives users access to digital health care and telemedicine.
